EDMONTON — The Government of Alberta is partnering with the Enoch Cree Nation and providing $30 million to develop a recovery community on the nation’s land.
The facility will have 75 beds and aims to provide holistic addiction treatment for 300 people every year, reads a news release.
The project began as part of the Edmonton Public Safety and Community Response Task Force, responsible for $187 million in provincial funding to build recovery-oriented care.
Construction on the project is expected to begin early next year. Nine recovery communities are currently planned in Alberta.
“With this new treatment facility, we have the opportunity to turn things around and reunite our spirit,” said Chief Cody Thomas of the Enoch Cree Nation in the release.
“Not only would this facility help those who are struggling with addiction or mental health issues, it would benefit our entire nation.”
